Another reptile for this week: Chad.
I'm not happy with his design, but since he's the last main character of this series, I let him be.
I think I will create an overview for the last week and start with the new topic in two weeks.

_____

CHAD MADAKI
male | 20 years | 1.69 m | cobra
"The lonely macho."

He's strong, stubborn, narcissistic and usually knows what he wants. But he realizes that all this doesn't help if he has no greater goal in mind and he realizes that he's lonely. That's why he's glad when he meets the others; but instead of accepting his flaws he falls back to be stubborn. He doesn't want to be dependent on others and deliberately acts against their plans. But he doesn’t want to be left behind either. This results in conflicts; and the main reasons for them are his arrogance, ignorance and especially his insecurity.

OdemTail
His weapon consists of several segments that resemble the tail of a snake. It's able to attack enemies directly or to grab, drag, smash and throw them. Curled up it can be used as shield as well.

Thanks :)
Most of these characters are neither completely good nor bad, but he would be more on the "bad end" of the scale.

if he is so introspective  why is he so set on purposely sabotaging the thing he desires most? isn't that counter to his personality as apposed to trying to take over or steer things in his own directions? a narcissist would be much more likely to try and make it about himself instead of being petty? it also seems more true to the personality you gave him to make him want to usurp the leader instead of trying to get kicked out of the group, please explain

also, why does he have speakers implanted into his hood?

Because he wants to air himself and to be seen as the headstrong, the "player" and the "special" one. He's unable to think things through, because everything he does is short-sighted and designed to come across "cool", "desirable" and "sexy" (I think I used the word "insecure" because of this lack of perspective and a clear goal). He has no real abilities that help the group (only his pure strength) and therefore he usually isn't in the spotlight. To be in the center of attention and to be the one all others fuzz about he has to create "conflicts" that involve him. He cannot be the best and there's no leader he could usurp and even if he did, the others would find out how disorganized he really is.

Because I thought about a "pimped car" and a character that wants to impress others with his appearance might pimp itself like a car.

so he intentionally limits himself so much that he is incapable of doing anything else but continue to limit himself? oh? i figured the bear dude was the leader, he has the traditional build standing and design that would imply he is the head of the group, is it a democratic or a plurality system? or is the group wholly organic with no real cohesion?

crazy, doesn't it cause him a lot of pain though? you cannot really wash or anything with it, you cannot use it or risk death from shock, it is full of porus parts and is likely to get infected and regardless of if it works not it still contains parts that can rust from blood contact and cause an excruciating and drawn out life until it is removed or he dies. what safeguards does he have?

His whole world consists of sunny weather, beaches, bikinis, girls and everything connected to it; he has no abilities with which he could keep up with most of the other characters and somehow he realizes this. He knows that he's strong and likes to bully other characters, because he thinks this proves his strength (but he stays away from Yakone, because Yakone is the only character who could easily mangle him with physical strength alone; he also has some respect for Xylon and Avel, not because they're strong, but because they're cunning and often malicious; he also keeps his hands off Qadira, because she signified (in a painful way) that she's not his toy).

The group is more or less organic. It often splits, restructures or reunites because of different motivations and plans of the characters. Some characters stick together, because they have a common goal or similar ideas, others walk around alone and only join the group if there's an obstacle that has to be removed.

You're interpreting too much. It's a design choice; it doesn't have to work in real life (these could be like tunnels though you can remove if you want to shower).
Even if it was impractical or dangerous, he (and all other characters) cannot physically die in this world. They can only be destroyed if their Odems are removed or broken.

how can someone interpret too much when looking at a character profile? these are questions that some people may find important and help you make a more coherent world

a lack of mortality would certainly take away fear but does this mean there is no physical pain/pleasure? you implied he can feel pain and if there is scarring he can still be shocked or have his hood damaged or if it gets hot he can be burned. why would he willfully hurt himself for aesthetic purposes?

It's over-interpreting if you take symbolic elements as actual features of a character that have to be consistent with our world and logic. By the same token you could ask: What biological/genetic processes are necessary to turn him into a snake-like creature? How do the yellow marks on his body form? How is he able to get enough oxygen if his skin consists of scales and cannot breathe itself anymore? How is it possible to see his muscles through his scales?
These questions would be interesting, if the character displayed an actual biologically and logically sound creature that lives within our world (but this isn't the case; even most science-fiction stories that try to explain everything logically have elements that cannot be explained and don't need to be, because they work in the context they're presented in).

I didn't say that there's no morality and no pain/pleasure. I simply said that creatures cannot die unless their Odem is removed or destroyed. Spiritual power (called Numina) is the essence of everything physical and as long as the Odem of a creature exists and has enough power it can restore physical damage. Even if he got hurt, his body can be healed.
And what are you saying to people who "willfully hurt" themselves by getting tattoos or piercings?

except the nature of his skin is not something that stands out in the context of the story, now if he was the only snake-dude in a world of humans i most ceraintly would bring it up but in the context of this story where it is commonplace to have these characteristics i am content to wait for an answer or even accept there is none, it is the same suspension of disbelief that allows me to accept he has legs. the issue is not with questioning every aspect but instead with questioning things that are /still/ out of place even when context is given, does this make sense?

no but you did put aside pain and made it seem as if that was not something to take note of, i am trying to bring it back into focus

i am saying nothing, those are not the same, as someone with a piercing and entrenched in tattoos as a lifestyle option i can tell you right now that the pain from that is temporary unless it becomes infected. understand that there is a difference from temporary pain and constant/consistant pain that does not go away, i see an issue with putting something large, heavy and with electrical currents and corodable plastics/metals into a body and treating it as if it was the same as a stud only larger, it is a heavily flawed premise to begin with but, even suspending the knowledge that a gauge like that would take a decade at the very least and would cause notable looseness, scarring and nerve damage i cannot get over the fact that it would be both a pain that does not go away and a hazard to his health(even if he can magically heal right back up)

And suddenly you care about context enough to pick and choose some aspects — some you put in the box "realistic depending on fictional context" and others in the box "realistic depending on the real world". I hope you notice and understand that I'm not able to identify and trace the subjective process of evaluation you use to state that something is realistic or not.

If you want to define problems into existence (within a fictional world; I would have no problem with your way of thinking if the world tried to emulate reality for the most part, but it doesn't) I can simply define solutions into existence: like "the headphones don't weight more than regular plugs" or "there're no electrical currents, only magic" or "while he was transformed the headphones appeared magically in his hood".

There're basically 3 views on art (or any kind of creative fiction):
The view of the dreamer, the view of the creator and the view of the critic.
The dreamer generates wild ideas that are disconnected from reality and doesn't care about the result or the effect they have. He doesn't create anything, because he doesn't put his ideas into practice most of the time. The dreamer is always the first step in the creation of art.
The creator concentrates on some of the ideas and refines them — he takes away what's too wild and unfitting and puts the things that work into practice. He has a goal in mind and evaluates and refines everything he does to meet this goal. He's a transitional form between dreamer and critic.
The critic looks at what's created and tries to find weak spots. He doesn't care about creativity or ideas — he cares about what's practical and real. The critic doesn't create anything either, because he uses the templates of what he already knows to put them over a creation to cut out everything that's too wild or too odd.
Usually an artist combines all three views, but they need to be in the correct order to work.
You overemphasize the view of the critic in a way that you're willing to destroy everything that doesn't meet your standard of what's proper and real. Questions like "Doesn't he feel pain?" or "How does he clean this stuff?" are questions of the critic applied at the wrong place, because they address something that's irrelevant to the main concept. The critic could also ask "Why is this object green?", but in contrast to the former question this is actually a good question for the critic, because there needs to be an answer for the choice of this particular color and the task of the critic is to find good questions and test the validity of the answers in the context of the whole concept.

I appreciate you opinion, but all you do is to poke holes into ideas. If I look at these hole you create I can only think "Well, sure you can make a hole there, but it's either too tiny or at a place that doesn't affect the whole".

Neat character.  Good detail and nicely colored.  I notice that his pants and undies are ripped so how does he keep them on?
